Publisher review:
NETGEAR has been a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products since 1996. Our mission is to be the preferred customer-driven provider of innovative networking solutions for small businesses and homes. This note describes bug fixes incorporated in the FR328S software release Version 1.4 Release 09. The enhancements and fixes are those added since Version 1.3 Release 08.NOTE: After upgrading to this firmware from a previous version, you MUST clear the configuration and re-enter your configuration information. Follow these steps:1) Write down all of your configuration information before upgrading.2) Load the new firmware using the Router Upgrade menu.3) Clear the configuration using the Erase button in the Settings Backup.4) Manually re-enter your configuration information.(One exception to this requirement – if you upgraded from Beta Release 1407 and performed factory reset at that time, no factory reset is required for Release 1409).New Features Overview:The manual has been updated, and is available on the Netgear website at: http://www.netgear.com/support/products/FR328S.asp * NAT (Network Address Translation) may now be disabled. Default remains enabled. * TZO and ngDDNS (China-based DDNS) have been added as a Dynamic DNS service providers. * A WAN Setup page has been added to allow the WAN port speed to be set manually, to allow for rare instances in which Autonegotiation may not function correctly. Other WAN-related functions have been moved to this page. * Remote access now secured using HTTPS (SSL). * Added Remote Access Server (RAS) functionality over serial port to allow a single remote user (from a list) dial into the FR328s from a remote site to access the LAN or get Internet access through the WAN, using name and password. * Added LAN-to-LAN serial connection between two FR328Ss with RIP, using name and password. This function will also work with an RM356 on the remote side. * Added Show Status button to Dynamic DNS page. * Email authentication is now supported.Modifications and Bug Fixes1. The DCD (Data Carrier Detect) line on the serial port is now being monitored correctly, so if the DCD line on the serial interface from the external analog or ISDN modem goes bad (good analog carrier signal goes away) the unit will now recognize that the line has gone down and will attempt to dial again if necessary.2. Added Adelaide (GMT 9:30) to drop-down time zone list.3. Added Serial Port Statistics.4. Added “None” option in “Send logs according to this schedule” drop down menu under Security, Email.5. Changed default MTU values (DHCP to 1468 bytes, PPPoE to 1460 bytes, PPTP to 1430 bytes).6. Fixed problem with modem dialing randomly under certain conditions.7. Fixed problem with IPSec passthrough, exacerbated with short SA lifetimes, where passthrough would fail after several hours.8. Fixed a problem where a PC on the LAN side could not successfully TFTP to a server on the LAN side.9. Fixed a problem where the routing table would fill, Internet access would slow, and the unit would ultimately require a reset to function properly. Scenario was use of a large number of long-lasting connections (like SSH, Telnet, MSN Messenger, etc.) and failure to close old connections before opening new ones.10. Modified user interface: Added Serial Port heading listing Modem, Internet Access, Dial-in, and LAN-to-LAN pages.11. Improved attached devices detection.12. Fixed problem with DDNS, added DDNS status page.13. Fixed grammar on DDNS and Rules page error/status messages.14. Default NTP servers are now Netgear time servers.15. Services port range now 1..65535, was 1..65534.16. When creating Rules using Block Always, LAN IP address box now grayed out, no need to enter IP address.17. When timezone was set to GMT 0 (London), time was half-hour off, now fixed.18. Changed default modem to “Standard Modem”, was “Permanent connection (leased line)”.19. Fixed problem where IP address was grayed out for “block by schedule, otherwise allow”.20. Fixed problem with Auto-Rollover wait time, now waits approximately the time specified before initiating Auto-Rollover.21. Changed dial-in password length from 7 to 50 characters.22. Fixed FTP PASV mode bug.23. DynDNS is now renewed every 28 days.24. Fixed problem where default incoming logs could not be set to Never.25. Set NTP query interval to 2 hours.26. When email notification is enabled, log will be sent immediately when full when “Send log according to this schedule” is set to anything except “none”.Known Issues1. Serial line auto-rollover does not work with NAT off.2. Dial-in or call-back PPP authentication using MSCHAP doesn’t work, will be fixed in an upcoming release.3. Although 50 characters are now supported for the dial-in password, the box is too small to show them all without scrolling.Using the New Software * NAT can be disabled (or enabled) under Setup, click Basic Settings. NOTE: Turning NAT off will reset all the configuration parameters back to the factory defaults. * TZO or ngDDNS may be selected as a Dynamic DNS service provider under Advanced, click Dynamic DNS * The new WAN settings page can be accessed under Advanced, click WAN Setup. WAN port speed may be set to AutoSense (default), 10BaseT Half-Duplex, 10BaseT Full-Duplex, 100BaseT Half-Duplex, or 100BaseT Full-Duplex. Other settings that have been moved to this page are Connect Automatically, as required (this is for PPPoE connections), Default DMZ server, Respond to Ping on Internet port, and MTU size. * For Remote Access, now instead of typing http://:8080, now type https://:8080. Two security alerts will pop up with regard to the secure certificate-based SSL session, then log in as usual * For the Remote Access Server function, under Serial Port, click Dial-in, then check Enable Dial-in. To add Dial-in Users, click add then enter user name, password, and select connection options. * For the LAN-to-LAN function, under Serial Port, click LAN-to-LAN, then check Enable Serial Port LAN-to-LAN function. Refer to Help to configure Incoming and Outgoing connections. * Note that the serial port can provide only one of the following functions at one time: Internet Access, WAN backup, Dial-in (RAS), or LAN-to-LAN. * After configuring a Dynamic DNS service, click Show Status to check the progress of applying the service. * To enable Email authentication, under Security click E-mail, then under Send Alerts by e-mail check My Mail Server requires authentication, then enter User Name and Password.
